Top 10 to Top 20 to Top 50 in government work satisfaction. Melson lied to all of us and to the nation. All his rhetoric about how everything is fine at ATF and we're one of the top places in the government to work and we don't discriminate and deny, deny, deny, counter allegate and blah, blah, blah. Loos must have prepped him for that interview on CNN. His angry little face when CleanUpATF was mentioned was probably because everything that has been said on this website has been, or is being confirmed. He should be flat out fired along with all the others around him who have denied we have any problems. ATF is fat with executives who don't know what to do and wouldn't do it if they did. The people of ATF are disgusted with all of you SES's who continue to make excuses instead of making changes. You have lost control of your agency. You have a mutiny on your hands. We warned you and then gave you a chance to do something and you all took a pass. You wait for problems to solve themselves and that is flat out terrible management. Please just step aside and go away.

We have a large cadre of failed managers, yet they continue to RECYCLE the same people thru different directorates. If they were abusive, unethical, inept or not trustworthy at their previously position, doe a simple title change make ANY difference? Seriously? Would IBM, Apple, Hewlett Packard allow poor executives to stay in place? Of course they wouldn't. From TOP 20 to 41st. Isn't it time you listen to us Mr. Melson OR Mr. Traver.

Apostate's below post is one of the best to ever hit this site. It is a dispassionate look back at ATF. If you are a sub-14 at ATF you are fair game to be jacked with by management. Chief Counsel backs their play with every dirty trick and tactic so they have nothing to fear. Melson likely is a nice man and that is a big part of his problem. He doesn't have the teeth to reach out and touch some of these bad bosses and put them in their places. They know it so they continue on with their mismangement. He has allowed old bad business to linger and fester. He has defended new bad business by sticking his head in the sand to it. You have allowed yourself to be surrounded by bad advise and have done nothing to change that other than making Ms. Stinnet the new IA director and pulling in Sarnacki to triage complaints. Thats it? Thats your solution? I have to believe that you are better than that. ATF has always fed us back survey results that our agency is rated as one of the best places to work in the federal government. We were something like #8 at one point and they've hung their hat on that. Then we slid to #17 and they force fed us that being in the top 20 was still outstanding. Now we are at #41. They never mention that anymore. We are rapidly sliding and I'd argue that our declining #41 rank is still an overstatement. Maybe Thomason can get out in front of this and feed the media more of his propaganda and lies as a counteraction. Like apostate said below. We have American heroes and warriors who have tested their skills on the battlefields of the Middle East. Those applicants with all the skills and leadership this agency needs are now being intetntionally passed over because they are white males and that catagory does not fit ATF's direction. Black, female, gay/lesbian, etc., I do not care just hire the best. That is not going to happen because the DO NOT DISCLOSE letter to the SAC's mandates them to ignore the best applicants and only submit names for hiring consideration that are minorities. Melson why not hire the best of the applicants regardless of their color or sex? Read the below posting Melson and you can easily see why you are failing so miserably.

After 15 years service with ATF I left ATF and went to another rival agency on a lateral transfer.( A disclaimer I have over 20 years in govt so am aware no agency is perfect) Before ATF served 8 years in the military. Amazing the difference in agencies. They actually treat their Sr 13's with respect and management always asks for their input. I was always beat down in ATF as a Sr 13 even though I was a good worker and a very good case producer. ( Received many awards from US Att office and grad top of ATF at FLETC so am not some complaining lazy s bag) I just grew tired of management shaningans going unpunished and saw ATF culture was not changing. Saw way too many ATF SAC/ASAC's force transferring, punishing good hard working S/A's just to screw with them and had nothing to do with improving the agency's mission. I would say things were getting worse when I left despite Melson's efforts. I admire Melson and think he is a good guy trying to do the right thing but he is up against a powerful, inept and corrupt culture.

Regarding the hiring process in ATF. ATF friends just told me about the recent super secret job ( SSSHHHHH) announcement at ATF only offered to certain groups. I know some great guys who just left the military after doing numerous tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and they applied for ATF and took the tests, scored well, have investigative and explosives, firearms experience etc. Looks they will be passed over for not being a member of the select groups. Ironic they put their lives on the line to defend America and the way of life here where everyone would be treated equal despite their race, religion, ethnic background. Now they are being denied job opportunities because of their backgrounds. Better to hire an inexperienced 21 year out of college who is a buddy, daughter, niece, nephew or a potential girlfriend for a SAC or ASAC. What a shock!!l Certain groups are not given the answers to GS 14 boards before the tests at my new agency like in ATF. They actually require actual investigative experience before being promoted into management unlike ATF.

Keep up the good work here hopefully things will change but not holding my breath.
