The open disregard and lack of trust and/or respect shown by main Justice is outrageous. However, Mr. Melson, Hoover, Chait and the entire executive staff have gone to great lengths to Ignore good leadership and ethical conduct. There's more to come. Until the responsible decision makers are gone, nothing will change. Would ANYONE reading this posting trust ATF to go after the Merchant of death? We cant play well between our own border divisions and now Newell a (serial abuser of agents) and an obstructionist related to ATF cases is in charge of our Mexican mission? I repeat, with our current leadership, what would you assign to ATF?

Well said. Having worked overseas in an attache position for another agency can verify that statement. DEA has a very good and respected overseas presence and a very good intell division. They have established working relationships with overseas LEO counterparts and with ICE, FBI. Take a look at who ATF staffs overseas. I rarely see these positions given to agents have have done big, complex, multi-jurisdictional investigations. Take a look at Mexico and Canada for instance. How many f-ups have been sent there only to be thrown out-of-the country because of their behavior? As mentioned by others ATF cannot even work with ICE, FBI and DEA in small local investigations. Agents want to work with other agencies until some SAC or ASAC gets involved and screws everything up because of inexperience and inflated egos. Not concerned with putting bad guys in prison. More concerned with making a phone call to HQ or other ASAC's, SAC's to brag about "their" big investigation. They are too concerned another agency might get credit!!! Again no support for the agents or ATF's mission to protect the public. Look at ATF's new hiring policy. Are we recruiting the best people? ATF doomed to fail.

In my opinion, and many of you may disagree, this just goes to prove that ATF is not a necessary agency for investigating gun crimes. FBI can do it, DEA can do it, and ICE can do it. FBI wants our explosives jurisdiction. The only mission no other big name agency wants is our arson jurisdiction, yet it's the arson investigators who constantly get trashed by management. Maybe it's time to start discussing the abolishing of ATF, creating an agency to regulate FFL's, and an agency in DHS to regulate FEL's alongside the Chemical Safety Board, and let every other alphabet agency work guns cases as they see fit.

My recollection of 60 min story was that DEA was tasked by DOJ to investigate Bount. See this and other trends http://www.nypost.co...hkslNhQdCOjnmfJ Notice something?

On 21 Nov 10, 60 mins did a story on how the DEA captured the Merchant of Death, the largest private arms dealer in the world. The DEA brought the Merchant of Death back to the US this week. Kudos to our DEA brothers and sisters for a well run investigation. I do not know if any other agency had any part of this investigation but it appears the DEA was the lead agency. I highly recommend the video which you should be able to find on line.
