From where I sit, I think naming the building for our fallen brothers in Waco is an EXCELLENT idea. Hell we should name it after ALL the heros who bravely executed the warrants that fateful day. Sans the corrupt managers who were responsible that is.

Patriot, I have no doubt that Jones keeps a sharp eye out for anything to add to his resume, however, I would suggest he hurry up and rename ATF. Right now being at the helm of this sinking ship is hardly a selling point. Especially when he is one of ATF very worst "leaders". EVER. Just think about THAT distinction for a sec.

I see this as just more political spin. It shows you to what lengths politicians will go to divert attention away from a real issue that negatively impacts their party. I am sure that Jones is onboard because he can add it to his list of "accomplishments" on his politcal resume. It's all fluff and meaningless. Maybe Jones will convene a panel to discuss this very important topic.

Lets not forget that we lost four young brave agents at Waco. It can be argued that their deaths were a direct result of the same inept management system that we have today. I am not clever enought to come up with a name that honors all fout, but I am sure someone can. I am not a savy enough historian to know whether Elliot Ness was a man of integrity and honor. His reputation may be all Hollywood. I do know that Steve, Rob, Todd and Conway were men of honor.

Drew Wade is a tool and a puppet. Doubtful he knows who Elliot Ness is. He and Mr. Thommason repeatedly defended corruption in this Bureau under Larry Ford, and in fact denied it even happened. Boxer is an embarrassment. The house is burning down and she's picking out what color to paint it. Congress at its best. I'm just glad to see the day of accountability is approaching FAST and FURIOUS.

BREAKING NEWS -- It's being reported that Eliot Ness has just turned over in his grave!

Great post Ike - I agree with your suggestions. One small correction however. I think you misspelled Vander Werf's last name. I thought it was Wonder Perv.

As we witness "a watershed moment in American history", Congressional legislation has been introduced [by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) - S.3304] to name the bureau's D.C. headquarters the "Eliot Ness ATF Building" after "The Untouchables.". Does ATF management in DC consider themselves "Untouchable"? How arrogant is that?

Many of us disagree. It would be far more fitting, proper and descriptive to name ATF Head quarters the "Russell Vander Werf Building" to memorialize ATF management and commemorate Vander Werf's sterling (all night) performance in Metairie, LA, December, 2009. Not "The Untouchables", but "The Touchables".

Perhaps a special entrance door could be installed in the building?

To quote:
"ATF spokesman Drew J. Wade called the proposed name "wholly appropriate and fitting."

The agency's acting director, B. Todd Jones, came to the ATF with a "keen understanding of the bureau's rich history and contributions to public safety and federal law enforcement," he said. "As such, Mr. Jones determined to see the ATF headquarters building named after one of its own."

ProConfesso:

That is an excellent suggestion - could not get better IMO. Of course that would mean a second secret signing ceremony...

Elliot Ness would be tarnished - Brian Terry would cleanse some of the dirt.
The views and opinions expressed by the author are just that. They are not the official opinion of anyone anywhere in any capacity.

The "Brian A. Terry Memorial Building"

I agree - wholeheartedly. You beat me to it. The "Brian A. Terry Memorial Building". A fitting tribute. Write your Senator and Congressperson.

Visit the Brian Terry website: http://honorbrianterry.com/index

The White House may forget his name - and did - but the American People won't. http://honorbrianter...an-terry-s-name

The IG report will be released after the election in November.

I propose, and I'm serious, The Brian Terry Memorial Building. That way, the Agency's SES and GS 14 & 15 Official Crossword Puzzle solver, Mens Room attendant and Coat Check room person can be reminded. ATF can't be cleaned-up. Face it. The managerial ranks are systemic with the defective. And they're protected by the Office of Equivocation.

Bread & Circuses. This is an insult. This is what we pay our legislators to do? How about balancing a budget?
Which represenatatives have called for the ouster and discipline of ATF managers responsible for the F & F fiasco. Doesn't it just blow your mind that this caper went past a RAC, SAC and Assistant Director and nothing is done to them? It is known who is responsible in this Agency yet nothing. How long will this IG report take?
I hope the secondhanders who condoned this gunrunning to Mexico were watching the parents of Brian Terry this evening on the Hannity show. How is your conscience letting you sleep at night? How do you look at your face in the morning while shaving? We have a backbencher who does crossword puzzles who couldn't find the time to stay in a F & F briefing cause he had to check e-mails, couldn't find the time to read wiretap affidavits and said we have a few problems but nothing major and thought he was going to be the one to ressurect the way things are done in IA no-less. Chutzpa comes to mind. But when youv'e been getting away with it you really think your above it all.
It's not funny, but it's not the first time the fake and phoneys coveruped.... but this time the gig is up

Proconfesso, regarding your question of how they can look at themselves in the mirror, I pondered that for many years. Then the answer came to me after watching an old horror movie - ATF Managers are all vampires. They have no reflection in a mirror. In addition, they must feed on the blood of innocents. I hope I’ve cleared this up for you.

I suggest that all the agents put together an emergency kit.....a necklace of garlic, a crucifix, and a wooden stake to drive into their hearts while they are laying in their caskets. Now you may think I’m crazy, but I have actually observed Eleanor changing into a bat. What was most astonishing is that she could actually get that fat ass off the ground and fly away. So folks, if you’re out driving one evening and see a bat hovering about and it appears to have an exceptionally HUGE ass, duck! It’s Eleanor. Put your garlic on and get home safely.

I believe this is the reason they blocked my number. I figured it out.

In order for the strategy of Bread and Circus to work B. Todd and Tom the populace has to be content enough not to pay attention. You may not have noticed so let me clue you in, your employees are paying attention and believe me, they are telling everyone who will listen what you're up to.

Proconfesso - I'm willing to bet that these people have no problem looking at themselves in the mirror in the mornings. They still don't see the problem. Their arrogance is exceeded only by their stupidity. Hell, I bet Tom still thinks of himself as a nice guy.

My suggestion for the name of the building would be the Kelvin Crenshaw Building. After all, he is the standard. Or maybe after the GS 14 who held his wife hostage for 3 hours while the sway team waited to get a clear shot. Or maybe after Eleanor, after all, she is the bitch who set the standard for OCC. Why not the Vanessa McLamore Building? What manager ever got away with more than Vanessa? Elliot Ness my ass.
