Believe me, the FBI does not want gun laws on their plate and could care less about the NRA.  They have their hands full with counter-terrorism, counterintelligence, public corruption, white collar crime, organized crime, and what little violent crime that the AUSA's will prosecute.  Also Representative James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, who introduced the bill to eliminate ATF, is a REPUBLICAN.  As such, the Republicans really do not want to keep the ATF alive.  With Trump's budget proposal to cut DoJ funding by 4%, ATF may get eliminated by the budget axe before anything else.
