Vincent, there are so many well-written and intelligent posts on this site that far surpass my intellectual ability to compete with, so I’ll keep my comments brief.
Having retired a few years ago I was sorry to leave the working relationship with people such as you who held professional ethics above personal interest. But I at the same time, I was happy to leave the Bureau because of the lack of integrity or ethics by those in management. The controversy over Operation Fast and Furious and your firing (one of the finest agents I ever had the pleasure to work with) has brought back memories and emotions I have not endured since losing our 4 agents in WACO, again because of the incompetence of ATF Managers.
I remember well when I first came on with ATF and was told by experienced agents to joint the ATF Agents Association, then run by retired Agent Billy Pace. As an idealistic new hire, I could not believe that ATF Management were only out for their interest, and would throw agents under the bus as sacrificial lambs to protect themselves. I could not believe agents had to fight the bad elements of society and ATF management to do their job and uphold the oaths we took.
With your firing, it is apparent that nothing has changed in 30 years, but has regretfully become worse. ATF Agents have always accomplished its mission, in spite of management. I just wanted you to know that at least one old broken down retired ATF Agent is in support of your efforts and I’ll be writing and calling congressional offices today. I hope my fellow retired agents will join the effort.
Keep up the good fight my brother.
